Luis Vazquez, Vice President, NHCCH

Luis Vazquez - Vice PresidentLuis Vazquez is a true product of the city of Glen Cove. He grew up in the city of Glen Cove with his family where he attended the public school system for elementary, junior and senior high school. After graduating in 1979, he attended Long Island University, CW Post Campus and Graduated with a degree in criminal justice plus a certificate as a paralegal. He subsequently received his New York Real Estate Sales associate license and was employed by Locust Valley office Coldwell banker residential real before joining Nassau County Government. In 1990, he served as the Executive Director of the coordinating Agency for Spanish Americans.

On the community level, Luis has served as the president of the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Acting Chairman of the Nassau County Heritage Festival, and a member of the Glen Knights of Columbus, the Elks club, the Nassau County Public Utility Agency, the Nassau County Hispanic Parade Committee, the WILW channel 21 Community Affair Advisory Committee, the Molloy Multicultural Advisory Committee and Hofstra for Hempstead/ Hempstead for Hofstra committee. He was formerly a national committeeman for the National Hispanic Assembly, the commissioner of Glen Cove Housing Authority, a member of the Glen Cove Board of Appeals, the council for the Arts on the North Shore Inc., and past mentor and arbitrator with the Glen Cove Dispute resolution center. Luis has dedicated numerous volunteer hours to help coordinate relief efforts with victims of natural disasters in Central and South America where he worked with the American Red Cross and the Archdiocese of New York City. He also helped spearhead relief effort with the Long Island Blood service in order to try to find possible matches for bone marrow transplant for recipients. Formerly board member for canine companions for independence and verizon consumer advisory panel.

He has received many awards, including Leadership awards from National Association of Puerto Rico/ Hispanic Social Workers (1995); Distinguished service Award from village of Hempstead (1997); Special Recognition Award from student organization of Latinos (1997); Community Service from Latino law students association/ Hofstra University (1999); Leadership award from LI Hispanic Chamber Of Commerce (2000); Silver stork Award from March of Dimes(2000); Humanitarian of the year from Hispanic counseling center(2001); and Glen Coves Rising Stars from Glen Cove Project Strive Program(2001)

Mr. Vazquez is a Consultant also one of the cowners of the corporation Casa De Vinos, which imports quality fine wine from Chile and Latin American. He also is the Vice President of the newly formed National Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Health. Mr. Vazquez continues to uphold his visions and dreams in bringing highest quality and standards to the community.
